Star Wars Day 2017 @ Washington Nationals
There’s no day quite like a Star Wars Day at the ballpark. For the third year running, Old Line Garrison invited us to join them at the Washington Nationals for their annual Star Wars Day. It was a huge undertaking with participation from not only the 501st but also the Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, and the Saber Guild with very careful orchestration in play to ensure that ballpark guests get to see as many Star Wars characters as possible. This year, we were thankfully treated to an overcast (and occasionally rainy) day and rather lovely temperatures, ensuring that no troopers overheated during the long troop.
Troopers greeted guests as they arrived at the park, manned the 501st table with a backdrop, and roamed the park throughout the game. Several troopers were even present down on the field for the first pitch! There’s nothing quite like the wide-eyed stares of awe from kids when they see some of their favorite Star Wars characters right there in front of them and there were plenty of those as we wound our way through the stadium. (And plenty of adults were thrilled to see us too!)
We thank Old Line Garrison for all of their hard work in helping coordinate this event and for once again extending the invitation for us to join them at this grueling yet incredibly rewarding event! Here’s hoping that we’ll all be back again next year for Star Wars Day 2018!
